Richard G Mitchell

richardgmitchell.co.uk

HTML, CSS, & PHP CMS

Richard G. Mitchell is a distinguished television and film composer, I have been responsible for his online presence (including this website) since 2008.

The website last underwent a significant overhaul several years ago, at which point I took the liberty of trying out something a little. Although the front-end of the site is a relatively straight-forward HTML4, CSS, jQuery and Flash build, the site sits on top of a totally bespoke PHP content management system, written specifically for this project. This allowed me to not only roll out an all-new look and feel for the website but at the same time hand over control of the sites content to Richard.

Content control in this case is virtually all-encompassing: everything about the site is easily customisable through the admin panel, from general colours to the graphics and a variety of template layout options. Most significantly, this is a site which handles audio and video media uploads via the admin panel, encoding the media once uploaded to provide a variety of different HTML5 formats as well as a Flash-based fallback. The site also allows Richard to integrate videos directly from his Vimeo account to further enhance his general online presence.

This site was one of my very first independent freelance projects. Although the standards and technologies available in online development have advanced significantly since, this remains a pivotal part of my portfolio; not because it demonstrates my abilities now in 2017, but because it shows where my freelance career began, and still serves the client to this day, more than nine years later.
